BULLETIN:

Salutations one and all!  Want your chance to win 150 dA points for absolutely nothing!?  Then +Fav this news article to put yourself in the May 1/50 For 150 Raffle!  For every 50 +Faves this article receives, I will add another winner to the running, so you have at minimum a 1/50 chance of winning*!  See!  Clever word play!  It's funny, yes!?

*Up to the first 500 who +Fav this article.  Not eligible for jackelopes,
sentient marshmallows, or participants residing in countries without vowels.

"But `vest," you might be poetically contemplating.  "That's such an awful waste of money, you obnoxious bombastic codger, you!  Why would you so stupidly throw points around all willy nilly like that on such handsome dapper blokes like us!?"

To which I reply, "Because you are a bunch of handsome dapper blokes!"

Oh...And to shamelessly plug the #color-me-club's May Lineart Contest...

The :iconcolor-me-club: Presents:

May 'Zodiac / Seven Deadly Sins' Color Contest:

This month, the running was close in a Poll choosing this month's theme (where 'Friendship' came in dead last, you horrible antisocial monsters).  So, as is usual protocol, we're taking the top two, putting all gurgling conflicts to bed, and throwin' y'all a big ol' bone of a deal with the opportunity to pick one of the top two themes: Zodiac or Seven Deadly Sins.

Or the other.

Or both...if you can.  Inb4 "Lusty Gemini" appears in the comments...

PRIZES.

:bulletyellow: 1000 dA Points from `vest
:bulletyellow: 2,000 dA Points from the #color-me-club (Go to ~CMC-Donations to donate to the prize pool)

If you'd like to donate a prize, use the donation widget on :iconcmc-donations:.  Donors to that prize pool will be featured in the #color-me-club journal.  Donors of 50 points or more will also get a three-thumbnail feature in the #color-me-club journal.

HOW IT WORKS.

The contest is simple.  Just draw a black and white lineart of an image that reflects the "Zodiac / Seven Deadly Sins" theme.  Remember, it doesn't have to mesh the themes, you're really just being extended the opportunity to choose one or the other.  You know...to make it more inclusive.

Then, a four-day long voting period will be held between June 1st through the 4th.

All medium is accepted.  You can color these images with Photoshop, Painter, Gimp, OC, crayons, color pencils, markers, pastels, Lite-Brite, you name it.  If it colors, it's acceptable.

I'M DONE WITH THE LINES.  NOW WHAT?

Once you have completed your black and white lineart entry, submit it to your DeviantArt gallery.  Then, send the #color-me-club a note.  The note should be titled "MAY LINEART CONTEST ENTRY," and the note needs to contain a [link] to your black and white lineart.

ANY SPECIAL RULES?

A few.

By contributing your lineart to this contest, you automatically agree to the rules listed herein, and give permission to the #color-me-club to showcase your artwork in the #color-me-club journal.

Only one entry per deviant.

Entries must be dated no earlier than May 1st, 2012.

Entries should be received by June 1st.  While we still accept entries through voting, you understand that late entries will be uploaded when the club is updated, and the artist will lose potential votes with a late entry.

The lineart must be your own.  Ripped or "sampled" lineart will be disqualified.  This includes tracing.  This does not include "referenced" images, you may use any image for reference.  As long as you don't trace an existing image directly, you're free to use any image for reference to help you create your work.

Winners of previous contests ARE allowed to participate.  There are no restraints for how often members can contribute.  The game here isn't about winning.  It's about creating.

You do not have to be a #color-me-club member to participate.  This is open to the whole dA community!

Lastly, have only one artist submit the image.  Collaborative efforts are encouraged.  However, ensure the other collaborator knows the image will be submitted to the contest, and determine who will be representing the image.

Best of luck, everybody!  I'm gonna be a glutton for your awesome entries this month around!  (Sorry, that was Capri-Corny)

*zodiac: n. an imaginary belt of the heavens, extending about 8° on each side of the ecliptic, within which are the apparent paths of the sun, moon, and principal planets.

late 14c., from O.Fr. zodiaque, from L. zodiacus "zodiac," from Gk. zodiakos (kyklos) "zodiac (circle)," lit. "circle of little animals," from zodiaion, dim. of zoion "animal" (see zoo). [Libra is not an animal, but it was not a zodiac constellation to the Greeks, who reckoned 11 but counted Scorpio and its claws (including what is now Libra) as a "double constellation." Libra was figured back in by the Romans.] In O.E. the zodiac was twelf tacna "the twelve signs," and in M.E. also Our Ladye's Waye and the Girdle of the Sky.

*horoscope: n. a diagram of the heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac, for use in calculating births, foretelling events in a person's life, etc.

c.1050, horoscopus, from L.; the modern form is considered to be a 16c. reborrowing from M.Fr. horoscope, from L. horoscopus, from Gk. horoskopos "nativity, horoscope," also "one who casts a horoscope," from hora "hour" (see year) + skopos "watching," in reference to the hour of one's birth.

*Dictionary.com, or any other dictionary of your choice

The animals you're referring to come from Shēngxiào, an Eastern system named a "zodiac" by Westerners because of the similarities it holds to the Western zodiac system.

Either way, the term is loose enough that even we non-experts can find plenty of room for creativity.

The theme is more intended to inspire and give an idea for a starting point for a piece of artwork. We don't want people to throw whatever at the contest, but when it comes to adhering to the theme we're not too terribly uptight about it. If someone were to mix up Zodiac with constellations and draw Orion, they wouldn't be disqualified because they at least made an effort to adhere to a given theme (even if they misinterpreted it).
